Question Mark Dot....

Started my new class this past Sunday. It's called "Get your Paint on". This week's inspiration was from some quilters in South Cackalaky or Alabama. Somewhere south of the Mason Dixon. So I was messing around with that today and was finally satisfied with the result. It started out with a lot of squares, rectangles, and triangles. I looked at it and was not impressed. Added circles and then more circles. Got a little bit carried away thinking about pinball machines and then I noticed I had painted a big question mark inn the middle. But what was the question?
Earlier in the week, daughter # 2 had a dream about a 3- eyed wolf in a forest that had chains hanging from the trees. I was inspired so I painted that for her. I must admit that I wanted to freak her out by leaving it on her pillow. That backfired because she loved it and thought it was her birthday present. Works for me. Waiting for next weeks assignment.

Flowers of the Forest...

Was wandering around the back forty (actually the back five) the other day and decided to photograph the wild flowers I saw lurking in the woods. Good thing I did 'cause the last few days have probably drowned them...

Wild Iris or flag (just guessing)
Wild Geranium

Uhh...Indian Paintbrush?

Hmm...Don't know.

Ladyslipper!

More!

Umm another don't know but there's lots of them.

Wintergreen-lovely toothpaste aroma...

Really don't know, but it's spiky.

False Solomon's seal

More geraniums after I took shoot "white setting" off. Oops.

Pretty in Pink...

Just look at the colors on this little guy. He was parked near the handle of the screen door to the deck. Hope he survives the thunderstorms, hail, and tornado watch. The working cats are most displeased. They want to be on patrol. Meanwhile I signed up for a summer e-course on painting called "Get your paint on". Hopefully it will keep me occupied for the summer and out of trouble. As if...

Oh the Rapture of it All....

Spent Saturday working in the garden clearing the last of the winter debris and preparing the beds for seed. At quarter to six, we stopped our labor, made Dark and Stormy's, grabbed a bowl of chips and sat on the patio in the sunshine waiting for the "Rapture."Nothing happened. So we finished our drinks, stepped over a few snoozing working cats and went in to make dinner. Just before I went in I took a picture of our crabapples which were looking particularly fine.
The rest of the weekend I spent working on several different paintings-none of which are finished. Just added a little here and there but no voice said "Ok. You're done".
My flowers got a little less dull and my girl got a little more sad. I forgot to mention that Friday night was daughter #4's prom. A milestone. No more proms for us. No more girls falling down the stairs in their high heels. Wait a moment. Scratch that. They probably will still do that. Her date was apparently a  member of Starfleet Academy. He wore a Starfleet uniform instead of a tux and was somewhat late. Maybe Mr. Scott had problems with the transporter. Anyway daughter #3 was having none of that. When he finally pulled into the driveway, she hung her head out the door and yelled, "Get in here Spock!" Your sister will always take care of you...

Al vs. Skunk...

Guess who won? Not me, who was safely tucked into bed sleeping when the dire event happened.  Not Daughter #2 who let the poor cat in and was so overwhelmed by stench that she had to call her Momma. Not poor Al who then was subjected to a tomato juice bath in the basement sink followed by a dousing with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap. Thank God for Google! And certainly not Daughter #4 who I caught wearing a garbage bag over her pj's while safely standing in the background. Ditto the husband minus the garbage bag. This all happened last week but the memory still lingers. Luckily the odor does not.

Westward Ho!

Heading off to Colorado tomorrow for the nephew's wedding. Need to pack and to get my outfits together. I have printed off instructions for the cat sitter and am waiting to see if the timed lighting for my tomato seedlings is going to work. The working cats are going to have unrestricted diets this weekend. I think I am too! Have loaded up my sketchbook, ruler, and pencil. I guess I can take photos with my phone. I'm hoping it will be a little bit warmer there.... Dang. The light is still on..

Flowers, Fried Clams, and Tomatoes...

Little Something or Others...

Well there is one more sign that spring has finally come to New Hampshire, (we will just ignore Friday's little snowstorm) the Haven is finally open. When you can get coffee frappes and fried clams on the way to Walmart-you know spring is here. Other than that we have some flowers popping up near the front door, crocus in the orchard, and I have finally started my tomatoes. This year I definitely want some paste tomatoes in order to make sauce. No more playing around with the gardener's variety pack. That's always lots of eating but no sauce tomatoes. So this year I am growing Black Krim for eating and San Marzano's for sauce. That and a flock of lemon gem marigolds 'cause I like them. They are nice and bushy. The chicken coop is coming along fine. The husband is fiddling with the mechanics of the hatch door and will move onto the run as soon as I move all the plants out of that one bed. Where to put them though...
